The Horseshoe Bay Residents Association (H.B.R.A.) and The Western Residents Association (WRA)
Serving people of the western portion of West Vancouver
The Horseshoe Bay Residents Association has a long history, being established in 1945. In 1991 it merged with the newer Horseshoe Bay Professional and Business Association. This organization was responsible for such events as Horseshoe Bay Day – held annually on Father’s Day. It was also instrumental with the BC Government in the 1986 revitalization of the Horseshoe Bay Park on Bay Street. In the year 2000 the Western Residents Association was formed and most members of the H.B.R.A. joined the new organization, and some were elected to the executive committee. The new association would represent people living in the area from Eagle Harbour to Horseshoe Bay. The mission statement of both organizations includes the words "the voice of Western residents to Municipal Hall" and there is no doubt that they have both been, and still are, acting upon that statement.
However, for nostalgic reasons the H.R.A. is still registered in Victoria as a non-profit community organization, and a few of the older members meet annually, and continue to monitor activities in the Bay.
NEWSLETTER
In the winter of 1992 a group of Horseshoe Bay residents decided the village needed a newsletter. It was named, appropriately, "The Villager" and was published quarterly. It was, and still is, supported by advertising from local businesses, and by the Western Residents Association as well as the Horseshoe Bay Residents Association. In the summer of 2002 it was re-named "The Westerner" in order to reflect the views of a larger distribution area.
The Western Residents Association (WRA) Formed in 2000 serves the people of the western portion of West Vancouver.
The WRA strives to keep people informed by:
holding regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month,
inviting interesting guest speakers,
sponsoring public meetings of local interest,
Publishing an information newsletter, “The Westerner”,
e-mailing notifications and items of interest to their membership
The WRA also continues to be the “strong voice” with the West Vancouver Municipal Council
and other levels of government by:
• serving on various committees when invited,
• continuing our liaison with W.V. council and staff,
• monitoring council meeting agendas for items of concern,
• monitoring other sources of public information,
• presenting the information gathered to our membership and others for review.
